MSc in NURSING

THE AIM OF THE PROGRAMME

To prepare highly qualified human resource in Nursing to work as Nurse Educators (at the University and Colleges of Nursing) Researchers, Practitioners, Clinical Specialists and/or Managers in various health care settings.  It will also provide a comprehensive knowledge base to enable the graduate to act independently and in collaboration with other health professionals and to serve as a positive role model in society.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The programme consists of two parts taken consecutively. 

ELIGIBILITY

The following shall be eligible to apply for admission to the Degree of Masters in Nursing.

1.            Graduates of the University of Zambia with BSc. Nursing Degree with at least a Merit.

2.            Graduates with BSc. Nursing Degree from any recognized University in the world with a passing grade equivalent to that in 1 above.

3.            Any other qualified persons who can satisfy the Senate:

as having equivalent standing to graduates of the University in terms of number 1 above; and as to their fitness to pursue postgraduate studies

4.            Graduates of sufficiently high standard that have demonstrated competence to undertake postgraduate studies.

Duration of the program:

The MSc in Nursing course shall run for 24 months.

PART I: The first 15 months shall be devoted entirely to course work with lecture content from facilitators. Relevant skills laboratory practical sessions will be demonstrated during residential school time. Residential school shall also consist of tutorials and seminars.The duration of the course work is 15 months, which must be completed before proceeding to PART III. 

PART II: In the last 9 months, the students shall undertake a research project and submit the dissertation for examination.
